Upcoming iPhones to exclusively use TSMC's 3nm chips as Apple places 100% order

According to reports, Apple has placed an order for TSMC's first-generation 3nm chips. These chips are expected to be used in the upcoming MacBook and highly anticipated iPhone 15 Pro lineup, set to be released later this year. A recent report from DigiTimes suggests that Apple has procured 100% of the N3 supply.

Despite the high production cost, these chips are expected to have a high yield. TSMC has already begun mass production of the 3nm chipsets in December, with a significant increase in production speed. This is expected to raise the monthly output to 45,000 wafers by March.

WHY APPLE wants TSMC’S 3NM CHIPS?

Apple has relied on TSMC's chipsets for its Bionic chipsets in recent years, and plans to incorporate the 3nm technology into this year's A17 Bionic chipset. This technology will provide significant power to the upcoming Apple iPhone 15 Pro lineup while also saving 35% of power compared to the 4nm technology used in the Apple iPhone 14.

What's even better is that last year's flagship phones from Apple were the only ones equipped with the 4nm technology. By using the latest 3nm technology in its upcoming devices, Apple hopes to improve overall performance. Furthermore, Apple plans to unveil its new MacBook with TSMC's 3nm chip later this year

The TSMC 3nm Chip is expected to significantly improve performance and power efficiency, unlike the 5nm chipset which has received criticism for underwhelming performance. The M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, which use the 5nm process, have failed to meet expectations.

Compared to its predecessors, Apple's flagship devices will benefit greatly from the TSMC 3nm Chip in terms of performance and power efficiency. TSMC is also working on an improved version of the N3 chip, called N3E, which is the first generation 3nm technology available for commercial production later this year. Apple is rumored to be the first customer to acquire this technology for its upcoming devices, with reports suggesting that the company is working hard to introduce the M3E technology. However, there has been no official news from Apple regarding this
